Dear Timarron Family Medicine Patients,
Here are some updated thoughts about COVID-19. First, there will always be conflicting views on what is best and what is right for the simple reason that nobody really knows all there is to know. Once we humbly admit that, it should allow us to offer grace to each other for our different opinions and thoughts.
From a life perspective, we have to accept COVID-19 as just one more thing on a very long list of things that could end our life any day. Nobody is promised tomorrow so always keep your business in order, your relationships healthy and ask questions now, not later, if you are unsure about what death means for you.
Regarding the removal of the mask mandate and allowing businesses to open up 100% per Governor Abbot, I see it as a beneficial move though I realize many say the opposite. The negative impact on lives related to the shut down of businesses and the subsequent loss of jobs and incomes as well as the disruption of normal family and other social relationships has been far more grave and costly than most people have yet to realize. We as humans are not intended to live in isolation and in fear. We thrive on healthy relationships and suffer greatly without them. We need to transition back into a normal way of life and relationships while taking appropriate precautions.
No doubt the COVID virus is still out there and still making healthy people sick and making sick people die. We must continue to protect those at high risk of complications of the COVID-19 virus. This message is the very same we give every year regarding Influenza. If you are at risk for complications from COVID or Influenza, you are primarily responsible for protecting yourself. If we are care givers for loved one’s at risk or know we will be around others at risk, we need to do all we can to help protect them. If you are not sure whether those around you are at risk and you yourself are not yet immune either via vaccination or via natural immunity resulting from having had the COVID-19 infection, then we should err on the side of caution and wear masks and keep some distance.
At some point, we as a society will have to get comfortable with whatever degree of immunity we can attain as a whole and also accept the ongoing, though reduced, risk of COVID-19 as some risk will likely be ever-present.
Each day has risk and each day we choose to accept risk in order to live life in community. As a community we are diverse in our thoughts and feelings about COVID-19 and also diverse in our risks related to COVID. The most you can do is be responsible for you. Improve your lifestyles to make yourself as healthy as you can be to lower your risks from all diseases. Heart disease is still the number one killer of both men and women in America. Maybe a 24/7 display of cardiovascular deaths would get our attention about our lifestyle choices and lead to some healthy changes.
Judge not lest ye be judged and remember you don’t know what you don’t know. Show grace and compassion to one another and we will get through this.
Dr. Christopher M. King, MD
We now offer an alternative to traditional primary care practice models. TAHP is a hybrid of care offerings suited to the needs of the individual or family.
We are a limited resource for what seems like unlimited needs in our community, but with our new model we offer services you have often requested but we could not previously provide.
